Thought for day:

He drew a circle that shut me out — Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.

But Love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in!

Born Free!

I was born free,
Played with a plastic key.

I learnt that some decades back,
My folks were slaves,
not free,
Ruled by some white men,
Who taught us they were white
And we were not.

Made us slave in genes,
While wearing blue jeans.

But some mutated,
They rose up,
Then all rose up
& the white had to rise
And run back away.

Hence I was born free.

From outsiders
we became free.
But slavery,
had got into our genes,
& now we are slave,
of insiders.

They tell us never believe in foreigners,
We can’t believe in our own brothers.

Bureaucracy & red–tapism
‘GOD-men’ and Casteism
Child labour and terrorism,
we are all slaves to them.
Though wearing blue jeans,
with slave genes.

Thus, we celebrate,
Independence day,
To reminisce,
We can become free,
But not for free,
though we wear blue jeans.

Our chairmen sleep
in their cosy chairs like demons.
They wake in elections,
Offering messy selections.

Let them sleep,
If they can’t wake up.
Because some will rise,
Then all will rise and,
we will overcome all these demons
and keep overcoming all that comes.
